The earthquake epicenter was located 308 km away from Heraklion, where about 137 thousand people live, and 115 km away from the Karpathos Island. The source was located at a depth of 60 kilometers. Meanwhile, Turkey's Department of Emergencies reported a magnitude 6 earthquake in the south of the country.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 36 kilometers in the Mediterranean Sea and 190 kilometers from the resort town of Kas, Antalya province.
