Toxic rain expected in Lebanon after explosion

On Tuesday, August 4, a massive explosion damaged a pyrotechnic warehouse that is located in the seaport of Beirut in the Lebanese capital. There is a cargo ship with ammonium nitrate near the damaged building.

At present, the cause of the explosion in the port of the capital of Lebanon is not known, but the country's security forces made assumptions. At first, they reported that more than 50 tons of ammonium nitrate had detonated from smuggled cargo, which were stored in a warehouse in the port awaiting destruction.

Later it was reported that "during welding" there was a detonation of cargo with 2.7 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse in the port of Beirut.

As a result of the explosion, toxic substances were spewed into the air over the Lebanese capital. Ammonium nitrate cools the air, therefore the night in Beirut will be cold, and toxic rain is expected on Wednesday morning.

Ammonium poisoning causes a headache, pain in the throat, eyes and abdomen, as well as redness on the skin and eyes. If you swallow a dangerous substance, you can become cyanosed, with blue lips, fingernails and skin, and dizziness, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea and general weakness can appear.

As a result of the explosion, a children's clinic suffered whose workers managed to take out all young patients before the collapse of the building. It is noted that there were newborns in incubators in the medical institution.
