The explosion in Beirut killed at least a hundred people, as reported by Agence France Press and Al-Hadath, according to Red Cross data. Earlier, the Lebanese Minister of Health reported 78 deaths.
The secretary-general of the Lebanese Red Cross, Georges Kettaneh, said that there are more than four thousand wounded, the condition of some of them is described by doctors as serious. He said that the death toll has reached hundreds of people and continues to increase.
Rescuers still receive dozens of calls about the wounded and dead who are in those buildings where it has not yet been possible to get. Doctors ask to take the victims outside the city, because local hospitals are overcrowded.
We remind that yesterday in the Lebanese port in the city of Beirut there was a devastating explosion. According to Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab, the blast caused by the improper storage of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate.
A blast wave shattered windows at buildings located within a radius of several kilometers from the place of emergency, and part of the buildings was also destroyed.
Today, the authorities also announced that toxic gases had released during the explosion. Everyone near the scene is advised to stay indoors and wear masks if possible.
Meanwhile, a number of countries have already indicated their willingness to assist Lebanon.
