"The purchase of vaccine for the population is planned to be carried out by the end of 2020 as part of the project of centralized supply of EU member states. The program is implemented by the European Commission, in which the Czech Republic will buy a vaccine for 5.5 million people for a total of 75.5 million euros," said Jan Blatny.
The head of the Czech Ministry of Health promised to conduct mass vaccination of the population from January 2021. If necessary, the coronavirus vaccine will be purchased for another 10.6 million people. As a result, the drug will be available for more than 16 million people, which exceeds the Czech population.
The purchase of the second batch will require another 149 million euros, said Jan Blatny. At the first stage, it is planned to vaccinate 3.5 million residents. Pfizer, BioNTech and AstraZeneca will supply vaccines.
AstraZeneca vaccine efficacy is 70%, as previously reported. Drugs from Pfizer and BioNTech have an efficiency of 95%.
