The CEO and founder of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX Sam Bankman-Fried, who is accused of fraud, money laundering and was extradited from the Bahamas to the U.S. on December 21 on U.S. request, was released on bail of $ 250 million. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing prosecutor Nicholas Russ.

Bankman-Fried has been placed under house arrest. He will be under electronic surveillance at his parents' home in California.

The next court hearing will be Jan. 3.

Prosecutors did not insist that 30-year-old Bankman-Fried be taken into custody because he voluntarily agreed to be extradited to the U.S. and because his condition had declined enough to "significantly limit the defendant's ability to move about."

The FTX exchange began bankruptcy proceedings in November. Bankman-Fried, the company's founder, resigned. He was arrested in the Bahamas on Dec. 12 at the request of the U.S. attorney's office.
