The number of deaths compared to last week increased by 3.5%.
In seven days, the daily incidence of coronavirus in the United States increased by 25% compared to the previous week. This was announced on Wednesday, December 22, by the head of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States, Rochelle Walensky.
“The current seven-day average daily growth rate of the number of new cases is about 149.3 thousand, an increase over the previous week was 25%,” Walenski quoted TASS as saying.
Average daily deaths and hospitalizations also increased. As Walenski noted, an average of 7.8 thousand people are hospitalized per day, and about 1.2 thousand US citizens die.
The head of the CDC explained that experts associate the increase in the incidence rate with the spread of a new strain of the omicron coronavirus, and clarified that the authorities predicted a worsening of the epidemiological situation and were preparing for this.
