The Turkish leader believes that it is necessary to get rid of the legacy of the 1980 coup d'état.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on TRT television that the development and adoption of a new constitution of the republic is an important task for his party and administration.
"One of the main tasks remains the new constitution. We will evaluate [the developments on it] within our party alliance, do the necessary work," Erdoğan said.
He noted that there will be dialogue with all parties in drafting the bill.
"If they come up with proposals, we will analyze them," the Turkish leader confirmed.
Recall that Turkey's current constitution was adopted in 1982 after a military coup in 1980.
