The High Court hearing on the extradition to the United States of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was held in London on 20 and 21 February, the Independent reports.

"The hearing has now concluded," the publication writes.

The judges will make their judgement at a later date.

Assange faces 18 charges in the US. Collectively, he faces up to 175 years in prison.

The last opportunity for Assange will be an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

Julian Assange has been in hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, fearing extradition to the US, since June 2012 after publishing classified US material, both military and diplomatic in nature. He was removed from the embassy grounds in April 2019 and Assange was subsequently placed in Belmarsh Prison, where he remains to this day.

A US court sentenced former CIA programmer and WikiLeaks whistleblower Joshua Schulte. He received 40 years in prison.
