Choreographer and producer Ilya Averbukh spoke about the chances of Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaya to compete at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Recall that Kostornaya will not perform at the Russian Championships in St. Petersburg because of an injury.
"Sad news for all the fans, for all who support Alena. Skipping the Russian championship actually deprives her of a chance to go to the Olympics," said Averbukh.
The choreographer also noted that Kostornaya was one of the main contenders for the trip to Beijing.
"She had slightly less chances than our leaders Valieva, Shcherbakova, Trusova and Tuktamysheva," he added.
Recall that recently the Russian finished second at the Grand Prix in Grenoble, France. The victory then won her compatriot Anna Shcherbakova.
Russian Figure Skating Championship will be held in St. Petersburg from 23 to 26 December.
