The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Elena Vyalbe, suggested that if athletes' doping samples are preserved for many years, then it is possible to award them Olympic medals posthumously.
According to the World Anti-Doping Code (WADA), some athletes' doping samples can be kept for up to 10 years to allow for re-analysis.
Vyalbe told RIA Novosti that many aspects of the document could be reviewed, including the list of doping substances, which expands every year. She also expressed surprise at the long period of storage of doping samples, suggesting to reduce this period to two or three months.
Recall, in early March, two Russian track and field athletes, Victoria Sudarushkina and Ekaterina Kuznetsova (Zyuganova), were disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The penalties were handed down based on data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS), which kept doping test results from 2012 to 2015. The released data caused a wide resonance and raised many questions about the integrity and transparency of sporting competitions.
