Viktor Saneev, a three-time Olympic champion in a triple jump, has died at the age of 76. He played in the USSR national team.
"The National Olympic Committee of Georgia informs with deep condolences that Victor Sanayev, three-time Olympic champion, multiple European champion, three-time world record holder and one of the strongest athletes in the world passed away at the age of 77," reads the official website of the committee.
Viktor Saneev was the only three-time Olympic champion in triple jump. Viktor Saneev won gold medals at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics. At the 1980 Moscow Olympics the athlete won silver medals.
Victor Saneev was born on October 3, 1945 in Sukhumi. After his sports career he worked at the "Dynamo" sport society in Tbilisi. After the collapse of the USSR left to live in Australia.
