Journalists mistook the broken chimney for a Russian missile.
Journalists of the French TV channel France 2 apologized for publishing a fake story about the Zaporizhzhia NPP. In particular, they referred to a fragment showing a damaged chimney, which the journalists mistook for a Russian missile.
The TV channel published a post on Twitter with apologies and noted that the photos received from the APTN agency were misinterpreted, which resulted in an "unfortunate mistake".
The story, which was based on a photograph that shows a damaged chimney on the roof of a building near a nuclear power plant. Due to a munition hit, the structure collapsed at the base, causing the chimney to tilt sideways.
On the basis of this photo, a news item was aired on the TV channel on August 10, but the incident was not apologized for until late in the evening of August 22.
