The girl herself had previously left Russia and asked not to be found.
The father of 19-year-old Chechen girl Liya Zaurbekova, who accused her relatives of violence and fled Russia, commented on the situation for the first time, saying that she could only fall in love with men of her own nationality.
Beslan Zaurbekov, 44, noted that they tried to keep Liya at home, but she managed to escape. He added to Regnum news agency that the relatives will continue searching for the girl and intend to punish the one who misled her.
Zaurbekov noted that the man with whom his daughter linked her life must convert to Islam, otherwise he will face punishment. He also rejected the information about Lia's beating, calling it a fiction.
Earlier, Adam Delimkhanov, an associate of Chechen head Ramzan Kadyrov and a State Duma deputy, expressed confidence that Liya would be returned to her relatives in the republic and the perpetrators would be punished according to the law.
Liya Zaurbekova fled from Chechnya to Moscow on May 13, fearing for her life. She subsequently traveled outside Russia.
