The problem of migrants began to seriously worry the authorities of New York after the governor of Texas Greg Abbott from 2022 sends illegal migrants who entered the U.S. from Mexico, including in the metropolis.

Even at night in Manhattan, refugees can be seen crowding or loitering idly in downtown New York City near the detention centers.

According to The New York Post, the mayor's office of the metropolis has decided to introduce a curfew for migrants. The reason was complaints from local residents that "asylum seekers are knocking on every door, begging for food and clothes."

At the moment, the restriction will affect only four temporary stay centers: two in the borough of Queens, one in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan. Illegals will have to check in daily at the shelters, confirming that they are there between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m..

Exceptions could be imposed if the commuter's work or schooling requires it. In addition, as an exception, it will be possible to violate curfew when visiting medical institutions and legalization bodies. However, migrants will have to inform the detention center of their plans and apply in advance.

Abbott and other governors have regularly expressed dissatisfaction with the Joe Biden administration's overly lenient immigration policies.

Earlier, the Texas National Guard began controlling a section of the U.S.-Mexico border, barring access to federal border agents.
