The mayor of the city of Arnhem in the Netherlands, Ahmed Markusch, has expressed his justification for last Saturday's Koran-burning rally, claiming that such demonstrations do not violate Dutch law. This was reported by the newspaper De Telegraaf.
In his statement, the mayor pointed out that Quran burning is not prohibited in the Netherlands and therefore falls under the right to demonstrate.
He emphasized that, despite the undesirability of such opinions and actions, it was important to respect the law in this situation.
Earlier, the court in Grozny postponed the hearing on the criminal case of burning the Koran, in which 19-year-old resident of Volgograd Nikita Zhuravel is accused, to January 17.
