Moscow and Tokyo have agreed on fishing quotas in each other's 200-mile zone for 2024.
The Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture of Japan reported that Moscow and Tokyo have agreed on quotas for fishing in the 200-mile zone next year.
The negotiations started on November 27 and were held online. They have been held every year since 1984 and stipulate quotas for fishing and the number of vessels fishing in the 200-mile zone of the exclusive economic zone on a reciprocal basis.
In 2024, Japan and Russia will reduce quotas for catching fish on a reciprocal basis by six thousand tons. This year they amounted to 50 thousand and compared to 2022 reduced by 25 thousand tons on each side.
In the coming year, Russian fishermen will receive a catch quota in the 200-mile zone of Japan 32 thousand tons of mackerel, 10 thousand tons of Far Eastern sardine, two thousand tons of cod. The number of ships that participate in the fishery has decreased by 10 to 79.
Japanese fishermen received a fishing quota in the 200-mile zone of the Russian Federation for 25.8 thousand tons of saira, 5.6 thousand tons of Pacific squid, 3.2 thousand tons of Pacific cod. 585 vessels will take part in the fishery, as in 2023.
