Russia's death rate exceeded 2.4 million. Statistics were taken from the past year.
According to Vedomosti, between December 2020 and December 2021, a record number of people died in Russia since 1945. Natural population decline, excluding migration, amounted to 900 thousand deaths.
The previous record for mortality was reached in 2003, when 2.37 million people died in Russia. During the Great Patriotic War, mortality in the USSR was 30-50 people per 1,000 population, which is about 2-3 times higher than today.
Between October 2020 and September 2021, 2.39 million people died in Russia, or 16.4 people per 1,000 population. According to Alla Ivanova, Chief Researcher at the Institute for Demographic Research of the Federal Research Center for Scientific Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at the end of 2021, the indicators will worsen in comparison with 2020.
"During the year in Russia, the death rate will be at least 2.45 million people, population decline - 1.05 million people," - said demographer Alexei Rakshi. One of the causes of death is the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition, there is an excessive congestion in the health care system, which can also cause an increase in mortality.
