37 companies from St. Petersburg added to the US sanctions list

The sanctions were imposed for ties to the Russian military industry or support for the army.

On May 1, the US Treasury Department published a new list of sub-sanctioned organizations and individuals, against which 37 organizations from St. Petersburg were targeted. In total, the new package of sanctions includes 250 names of organizations and dozens of new people.

Under the sanctions fell various firms that conduct research and development in the technical field, companies that are engaged in the production of computer equipment, software, companies that are engaged in trade in computer equipment, as well as engaged in transportation and logistics. The sanctions were imposed for alleged links to the Russian military-industrial complex. For example, the joint-stock company "Design and Construction Bureau Rio" fell under the sanctions.

Earlier, the U.S. imposed sanctions against the Russian payment system MIR, causing CIS countries such as Kyrgyzstan to stop working with it.

Also, the U.S. recently extended VTB Bank's license for transactions related to the sale of Russian oil, gas and other energy raw materials.
