Former U.S. President Obama warned Israel against inhumane actions against Palestinians.
In an article for Medium, former US leader Barack Obama warned the Israeli authorities about the consequences of inhumane steps against Palestinian civilians.
According to the former US President, thousands of Palestinians were killed during the bombing of the Gaza Strip, many of whom were children. Hundreds of thousands of residents of the enclave were forced to leave their homes. The Israeli cabinet's decision to cut off food, water and electricity to Gaza threatens to worsen the humanitarian crisis, as well as harden the attitudes of generations of Palestinians, undermine global support for Israel, and undermine long-term efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, Obama emphasized.
He noted that despite American support for Israel, it is necessary to "take a clear position" that the way the IDF conducts its fighting against Hamas matters. The former White House chief clarified that it is important that Israel's military strategy be consistent with international law, including laws that speak to the need to avoid civilian casualties and suffering.
Obama recognized that even carefully planned operations often put civilians at risk.
The former U.S. president called for combating anti-Semitism and not minimizing Palestinian suffering.
