Israel's prime minister-designate had until Wednesday evening to announce to President Isaac Herzog that he «succeeded» in forming a new government, replacing outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu announced late Wednesday night that he would be able to form a new government with his partners from the ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties, just minutes before the crucial deadline.
Netanyahu had until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to announce to President Isaac Herzog that he "succeeded" in forming a new government, replacing outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid.
"I have succeeded," Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew minutes before the deadline for announcing the formation of the new government. Israel's president confirmed that the prime minister "called" Isaac Herzog to give him the news in time.
"Dear President, thanks to the tremendous public support we received in the last election, I inform you that I was able to form a government that will act in the interests of all the citizens of Israel," he added in a statement.
