Turkey was urged to coordinate its foreign policy with the European Union. This statement was made by the official representative of the office of the head of the EU foreign service, Josep Borrell, Peter Stano. This was reported by Izvestia.

He said that Ankara should stop offering Russia options on how to get around the sanctions imposed by the European Union.

Stano said that Turkey is an important partner and neighbor of the EU and noted the importance of the country's foreign policy being consistent with the foreign policy decisions and policies of Brussels, including on anti-Russian sanctions.

Peter Stano stressed that the European Union is closely following this situation.

Earlier it was reported that the United States of America and the EU want to increase pressure on Turkish banks, fearing that Russia is circumventing sanctions with their help. This will especially affect banks that are connected to the Mir payment system. Turkey assured that it does not violate the policy and is not a channel for circumventing restrictions.
