European leaders have decided at a summit in Brussels to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on their accession to the EU, European Council President Charles Michel has said.
The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said on social network X that European leaders at the Brussels summit decided that it was necessary to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on their membership in the European Union.
The European Commission recommended last Friday, November 8, to start negotiations on the issue, explaining that Kiev and Chisinau have met several conditions for EU membership.
Earlier, Hungary said that it was categorically against starting negotiations with Ukraine on EU membership. Budapest proposed not to bring this issue to the summit, but to return to it in 5-10 years after the EU works out a new strategy of relations with Ukraine.
