2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been formally appointed to head Bangladesh's interim cabinet, presidential spokesman Joynal Abedin said.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, Yunus accepted an offer from leaders of the student "revolution" to become chief advisor.
Yunus is currently in France for the Olympics and also for medical treatment. However, he will return to Bangladesh soon.
The student protest leaders had earlier said they would not allow the formation of any interim government other than the one led by Yunus as chief advisor.
On Monday, August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina and her sister left their Dhaka residence for a safer place amid the unrest. Media reports said Hasina resigned and flew to India or Britain.
