A Makkah provincial official informed of the death of a native of Nepal in a shooting near the U.S. consulate in Saudi Jeddah.
According to the official, the deceased was a guard of the U.S. diplomatic mission. He died from a gunshot wound sustained during a shootout between local law enforcement officers and an unidentified man who opened fire near the U.S. diplomatic mission.
The incident happened at 6:45 p.m. on June 28 when a car stopped outside the U.S. consulate and a man got out of it with a gun in his hands. The guards opened fire to kill. The Nepalese national died from wounds sustained in the shooting.
The U.S. State Department said no diplomats were injured. The guards managed to eliminate the attacker.
Earlier, it became known that law enforcement officers in Moscow detained a man suspected of robbery and assault on operatives.
