A truck driver has crushed 17 schoolchildren to death in the Nigerian city of Lagos, Vanguard reports.
The tragedy happened at a school bus stop when the children were returning home from school. A man at the wheel of a truck was trying to escape from the police pursuing him, but failed to control the vehicle when it crashed into a bus stop. Seventeen children died of their injuries, and there were others injured as well.
The exact number of students who received injuries of varying degrees of severity is still unknown.
After the accident, the driver fled, but was later detained by law enforcement officers.
