In Shulan Municipality (northeastern China's Jilin Province), 14 people have died due to flooding and one is reported missing.
According to Xinhua News Agency's informed sources in regional authorities, emergency services had reported at least 14 deaths from flooding as of 10:00 p.m. MST (17:00 Moscow time) on August 6. The cause of the cataclysm was heavy rain that hit the city of Shulan. Rescuers are still searching for one person, who disappeared without a trace during the flood.
Recall that from the evening of August 1, the region was hit by super typhoon "Doksuri", which sharply increased the level of the reservoir due to precipitation. Three local officials, including Vice-Mayor Shulani, were killed while dealing with the consequences of the rampant disaster.
Chinese authorities estimated that the bad weather caused damage to the country's economy in the amount of 3 billion yuan. From the rains and wind affected 1.45 million people.
