An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 was recorded Tuesday near the coast of Taiwan in the northeast. It was reported by representatives of the China Seismological Administration.
As it is specified, the underground shock occurred at 09:57 local time (04:57 Moscow time).
The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in the sea area, at a distance of about 165 km northeast of the island. The source of the phenomenon was located at a depth of 210 km under the seabed.
At the time of news release no data on victims or damages were available.
Note that Taiwan, whose population is about 23 million people, is located in one of the most seismically active zones in East Asia.
