Moscow medics saved a baby girl with severe pathology

The medical team of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital - a branch of the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Institute of Medical Sciences of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation fought for the life of a little girl for more than 10 hours. She had a rare and severe pathology of the aorta - this largest vessel in the body was narrowed to an extreme degree. The child's internal organs suffered from insufficient blood supply.

Aif.ru writes that a baby girl from the Irkutsk region came under medical supervision immediately after birth. Her blood pressure was high for a child of such age - 140/80 mmHg. During examinations they found the cause of high blood pressure - almost complete interruption of the aorta. To determine the tactics of surgical treatment, the five-month-old baby was sent to the Department of Paediatric and Cardiovascular Surgery of the Russian Children's Hospital. It was found out that the child also has concomitant problems - due to the disruption of blood supply the kidney function was affected.

Deputy Chief Physician for Surgery at the Russian Children's and Cardiovascular Hospital, Head of the Centre for Reconstructive Plastic and Vascular Surgery of the clinic, Dr. Maxim Sukhov reported that at the level of the renal arteries, the aorta narrowed to a thread-like state for 5-6 cm.

The plan of the operation and postoperative treatment was made by paediatric surgeons, cardiologists, ultrasound and radiation diagnostics doctors, transplantologists, anaesthesiologists-animatologists, and others. The operation was performed by more than 20 specialists.

The doctors had to temporarily remove both kidneys from the girl's body in order to install a vascular aortic prosthesis. During the operation, a special synthetic prosthesis was sewn in.

Sukhov noted that it was pointless to return the left kidney to the body, as from the very birth of the child it received insufficient amount of blood, was in an underdeveloped state, and there was no chance to restore its function.

The complicated operation lasted more than 10 hours and was successful. The girl's condition continued to be monitored by a large multidisciplinary team of doctors, and the post-operative period passed without complications.

At the moment the little girl is under the dynamic observation of doctors at the Russian Children's Hospital. They said that the right kidney is working normally and the child does not need renal replacement therapy. Cardiologists monitor the work of the cardiovascular system, correct hypotensive therapy, in order to completely abandon it in the future.

Earlier it was reported that Novosibirsk surgeons saved the life of a girl with a tapeworm in her brain, and a quarantine was declared in Moscow's PFUR and Kosygin Russian State University because of measles patients.
