Haiti's Ministry of Health reported eight confirmed deaths after a cholera outbreak in the country. Health Ministry spokesman Laure Adrien noted that the number of victims of the disease could be much higher, since not all those who died had the opportunity to seek help from doctors.

"So far we have recorded eight deaths. Unfortunately, we cannot yet accurately count the deaths because the people who died of the disease had not previously had access to medical facilities," Haiti-24 quoted Adrian as saying.

Officially, cholera infection is suspected in another 20 residents of the country. The source of infection is in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

Recall that the last epidemic in Haiti was in 2010. It was infected more than 230 thousand people. 4,549 people died because of cholera on the island. The spread of the disease was caused by a strong earthquake in January and a hurricane that hit Haiti in November.
