The number of new infections also fell from the previous week, but less, by only 5%.
Last week, more than four million people worldwide were infected with the coronavirus and nearly 47,000 died. Compared to the previous week, the World Health Organization (WHO) specified in an epidemiological bulletin, the incidence was down 5 percent and the death rate was down 10 percent.
"The number of both new cases of infection and deaths decreased last week compared to the previous week by 5% and 10% respectively," TASS quoted the WHO report as saying.
From Dec. 6 to 12, there were 4,00,817 new cases of coronavirus infection worldwide. Fatal cases were 46,961.
The maximum number of people infected with covid during the week was detected in the United States - 674,019 people. In second place in the anti-rating Germany has 351,738 cases of infection. They are followed by Great Britain (350,340) and France (335,972).
In Russia, between December 6 and 12, 215,283 people were infected with coronavirus.
WHO also reported that the omicron strain has been detected in 77 countries.
