The U.S. national debt by January 19 exceeded the $31.381 trillion mark, which was previously established by Congress, reaching $31.416 trillion.
Thus, as stated in the letter of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to Congress, the U.S. national debt was left without the ability to attract new borrowing.
That is, the authorities of the country will have to raise the bar once again. If it is not done, the money resources of the country may run out by the summer season.
Along with this, the politician stressed in the letter that the government has no opportunity to apply the mechanism of additional borrowing.
Earlier the U.S. government raised the bar on the national debt in December 2021. At that time it was set at $31.381 trillion, increasing the figure by $2.5 trillion.
