At the opening of the exchange trading on December 20 the cost of gas in Europe exceeded $1,700 per 1,000 cubic meters, an increase of more than 7%.
According to TASS, the cost of January futures for gas as of 10:01 a.m. (Moscow time) reached $1,732 per thousand cubic meters. December 17, the price of natural gas did not exceed $1,560 per thousand cubic meters.
Steadily rising gas prices make some EU countries think about taking emergency measures to limit tariffs on natural gas and electricity.
At the end of September this year, the gas price in Europe for the first time in its history exceeded $1,000.
Against this background, Gazprom continues to reduce the amount of fuel pumped through the Yamal-Europe pipeline. At the December 19 auction, the company booked only 4.3% of the capacity offered for gas transit through Poland on December 20.
