Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has unveiled its first electric car, the SU7 sedan, announcing its plans to become one of the world's leading car manufacturers in the next 15-20 years and boost China's auto industry. The plan is to invest $10 billion in automobile production over a decade.
The SU7 model, where SU stands for Speed Ultra, is a four-door sedan with body dimensions of 4997x1963x1455 mm, reports channelnewsasia.com. The car will be available in two variants: one with a 73.6 kWh battery and an engine output of 299 hp, the other with a 101 kWh battery and 374 hp. The top speed of the versions will be 210 km/h and 265 km/h respectively. The electric car will be able to travel up to 800 kilometers on a single charge.
The company plans for 2025 another V8 electric car model with a 150 kWh battery and a range of up to 1,200 km without recharging. Production of the SU7 has already started at the automaker's BAIC Group plant in Beijing.
Earlier, the company threatened to sue those who leaked photos of the electric car, and the Chinese carmaker GAC started work on a new car warehouse in the Leningrad region.
